The House of Peace Orphanage run by ICMC exists for the purpose of serving the impoverished communities in and around Salem, South India.
We, at ICMC, believe that every child deserves the love and care because we believe that this is also God’s desire, we are committed to serving vulnerable children by providing the best possible care for them.
ICMC was founded on the belief in the Great Commission of Jesus Christ. It is our belief that every child deserves the love and care of a family. We seek His direction in serving children at risk. And, to the best of our efforts, we serve these children as Jesus Christ would serve them.
Through an orphanage, with several hundred children (and capacity to take close to 2000 when funds allow). Located at three sites in Salem and surrounding countryside, the orphanage feeds, shelters, provides health care services and educates orphans and children whose parents cannot care for them. We also feed them with the Bread of Christ – the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Many children choose a relationship with Jesus as a result.
ICMC is interdenominational organisation. It was founded from humble beginnings in 1988 by visionary Dr. S. Jayaraj Krishnan, known as “Dr Jay” or “Pastor Jay” along with his wife Christy. Raised as an orphan himself(see founder’s story), Pastor Jay has devoted his life to the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of orphans in southern India. Growing from 12 orphans and widows in 1988, ICMC has become one of the largest orphanages in India. He has been supported by individual donors around the globe in establishing ICMC, and as a result has seen many people saved from poverty and won for Jesus Christ. As an indigenous mission agency, it is highly effective in reaching the communities for Christ for the sake of the Gospel and continues to provide some of the best care and educational opportunities to the underprivileged in Asia.
ICMC is a registered non-profit organization in India and is supported by individual donors as well as a sponsorship program for the children. Sign up to sponsor a child today.

ICMC operates at three main places
the Promised Land | Eden Garden | Mission Centre.
Promised Land
which is the main site and houses several hundred children. From Pre-LK till 12th Grade children are taken care at the Promised Land. All the children who are in the PL study at our own school runned by ICMC. It is in rural Tamil Nadu, around an hour from Salem.
Eden Garden
An hour in the other direction is Eden Garden, a smaller orphanage for 100 boys, with children educated by local public schools. We would like to develop this site further in the future when funds become available. The climate at Eden Gardens is considerably warmer than that of the other centres.
Mission Centre
Our mission headquarters is in Salem, a country town of 3 million people. Here we have a boys and girls hostels for orphans attending St Basils Matriculation, a nearby school (St Basils) and the mission headquarters which serves as a house for Pastor Jay and his adult children (who also help run the organisation), office staff (for enrolments, accounts, donor support etc). There is also a guest house that can host International guests who are interested in seeing our work and help in whatever way they can. The roof at the guest house provides a quiet sanctuary with a breath taking view of the surrounding area of Salem and serves as a great place to get alone with God. Though it might not be readily visible there are five levels to this building, with the third and fourth level serving as the International Guest House.

Aims of House of Peace Orphanage
- To provide food and accommodation for orphan children and for children whose parents are unable to support them adequately for financial, medical or other reasons.
- To offer these children education from the time they are admitted until they have the necessary qualifications to obtain employment and support themselves.
- To teach the children the Christian faith and to instill Christian values so that they are able to lead meaningful lives, and eventually feed back into their communities.
- To offer the children the love and affection they require, which their parents have been unable to offer them for whatever reasons.
- To encourage the children to form healthy, lasting and secure friendships with their peers.
Where do the children come from?
The children mostly come from five categories
Full Orphans
Both parents no longer living
Semi-Orphans
One parent living, who is unable to provide for the child. In such cases the widow may be invited to join as caretakers in the same hostel as their child.
Leprosy Children
Children whose parents suffer from leprosy, or are severely disabled in some other way.
Prisoner Children
Children whose father is serving a prison sentence, and whose mother can not support the child.
Refugee Children
Children of Sri Lankan refugees.
The orphanages offer children, widows (many of whom are employed at ICMC so they can stay with their children): Clean purified water, nutritious food, education, a family to belong, clothing and medical needs (including assisting with higher medical needs such as corrective surgery for burns victims, etc).
The number of children that are coming into the House of Peace grows daily and your support is greatly needed just to provide food and clothing for the children. But we want to do more than just take care of their physical needs. Their mental, emotional, and spiritual needs are of utmost importance too. They are taught the Way of Christ and given proper educations too, that they might become self-supporting members of society when they become adults and that they might be lights of the Gospel of Jesus Christ unto all the world.
